Annual Lawn Renovation

If your lawn is in very poor condition you may find it mainly consists of moss, thatch and weeds. If so you require a Lawn Renovation. A Lawn Renovation should normally be carried out at least once a year either in early spring or early autumn.

Our Lawn Renovation service includes the following:-

  • Scarifying - involves mechanically removing thatch and moss

  • Aeration - To reduce compaction and improve drainage

  • Topdressing with soil - To cover the seed and improve drainage

  • Levelling

  • Fertilising with a pre-seeding fertiliser

  • Watering In Lawn

What are the benefits of a Lawn Renovation

The benefits of a lawn renovation are that you are removing excess thatch and moss, improving drainage and compaction with aeration, bringing new life into the lawn with fresh grass seed.

Aeration

Aeration is the most effective way of reducing sub-surface thatch and compaction in lawns, often the main causes of moss.

The benefits of Aeration are:

  • Thins out below-the-surface thatch

  • Relieves compaction in the soil

  • Reduces/removes the moss loving environment

  • Increases water, nutrient and air access to the soil Encourages root development

  • Improves the lawn’s ability to cope with drought and disease

  • An overall healthier lawn

Aeration is an essential part of a good annual lawn treatment programme.

Scarification

Scarification is the mechanical removal of surface thatch and moss from a lawn. Surface thatch naturally forms on a lawn. However, when it gets too thick it prevents important nutrients such as water, fertiliser and oxygen from getting to the grass roots. The result is a mossy and spongy lawn. Scarification removes most of the surface thatch and is an essential practice of good annual Lawn Care.

If your lawn is suffering with moss in Autumn and Winter or is spongy underfoot, it’s likely that it needs to be scarified.

A scarification will be carried out as part of your Annual Lawn Renovation and can be carried out at other times throughout of the year if required, to reduce the thickness of the lawn or to remove weed grass.

We carry out the following treatments throughout the year, dependent on the requirements of your lawn. The treatment timeline may change due to the timing of your Annual Lawn Renovation.

The benefits of Aeration are:

  • Spring fertilisation (March) - Helps your lawn recover after the harsh Winters

  • Weed Treatment (May)

  • Summer fertilisation (June & August)

  • Winter fertilisation (September)
